Lo scheletro del Tyrannosaurus rex Stan venduto da Christie’s per 32 milioni di dollari nel 2020 diventerà il fulcro di un nuovo museo ad Abu Dhabi che sarà completato nel 2025.
Stan troverà dimora nel futuro Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, una struttura di oltre 35.000 metri quadrati attualmente in fase di costruzione sull’Isola di Saadiyat, un quartiere ad alto profilo culturale nel più grande e benestante dei sette emirati che compongono lo Stato del Golfo Persico notoriamente ricco di petrolio.
Il nuovo Natural History Museum di Abu Dhabi, di cui è previsto il completamento nel 2025, ha progetti ambiziosi per raccontare la storia della vita sulla Terra, con un’attenzione particolare alla flora e alla fauna della penisola arabica e una più ampia sezione dedicata ai 13,8 miliardi di storia dell’universo.
Il museo entrerà a far parte di una rete di istituzioni situate nel distretto culturale di Saadiyat, tra cui il Louvre Abu Dhabi e il prossimo Zayed National Museum e Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. Lo sviluppo fa parte della strategia del governo locale per espandere il settore culturale della città. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, presidente del Dipartimento della cultura e del turismo di Abu Dhabi, ha affermato in una dichiarazione che l’obiettivo dell’agenzia è “rendere Abu Dhabi il luogo della ricerca, della collaborazione e della scoperta”.
