PARIS – Sport is no longer just a sport. It's a way of life, of movement, and above all, of dressing. It's from this awareness that the collection takes shape. Miu Miu Spring Summer 2027, presented at Paris Fashion Week under the title "Here and Now." The name itself makes a statement: fashion looks to the present, to real habits, to that everyday wardrobe in which the boundaries between elegance, comfort, and sportswear have definitively disappeared.
Miuccia Prada once again starts from what people actually wear to reshape its proportions, materials, and meanings. The result is not simply a sportswear collection, but a reflection on how sportswear has firmly established itself in contemporary life. Tailored jackets and track pants coexist, pleated skirts meet more technical elements, jersey is layered over formal pieces, and denim takes on a new central role. The goal is to make what is normally a matter of everyday life sophisticated, without depriving it of its naturalness.
The catwalk at the Palais d'Iéna reinforces this idea. The setting recalls that of a large sports arena, with a scenography that resonates with the collection's concept and will also be featured prominently in Alice Diop's "Geste de Consolation" project, scheduled for Art Basel Paris. Fashion, in this context, also takes on an emotional dimension: dressing can become a personal gesture, almost a form of comfort.
The wardrobe imagined by Prada thus proceeds through contrasts. On one side, there are pleated skirts, masculine-cut jackets, and more sophisticatedly constructed dresses; on the other, sweatshirts, track pants, jerseys, and details inspired by activewear culture. But it is precisely this combination that defines the Miu Miu language for next season.
The collection also explores materiality. Suede undergoes treatments that alter its appearance, satin encounters metallic surfaces, while some fabrics deliberately retain a tactile memory, almost as if the gesture of a hand were imprinted on the surface. Embroidery and crystals are also used to elevate seemingly simple garments and bring them to a more precious dimension.
Color helps break down the more conventional notion of sportswear. Alongside more familiar hues, accents of purple and less predictable color combinations appear, while stripes and inserts are used without necessarily adhering to the traditional color scheme of sportswear. It's another way to move the garment from the gym to the street, from function to personal expression.
Among the season's most interesting elements are two collaborations that perfectly illustrate this transformation: Wrangler and New Balance . Denim and sneakers, two essential symbols of everyday wear, are reinterpreted through the Miu Miu lens, entering a wardrobe where luxury and normality are no longer opposing categories.
The collaboration with New Balance is particularly significant because sneakers represent one of the most obvious connections between fashion and real life. They aren't presented as mere sports accessories, but as an integral part of a silhouette that can also include tailored garments, skirts, dresses, and precious details. This same logic runs through the entire collection: not transforming women for fashion, but transforming fashion to accompany women.
The casting also helped make this message concrete. Figures from diverse backgrounds appeared on the catwalk, including Emma Corrin and Olivia Colman . Colman's presence, an Oscar-winning actress, was one of the show's most striking moments: a face far removed from the conventional codes of the runway model, becoming a natural part of the Miu Miu universe.
The choice is no coincidence. Miu Miu seems to want to create a runway inhabited by people, not just silhouettes. The concept of everyday beauty thus becomes an integral part of the collection and reinforces the idea of a more accessible luxury, capable of engaging with the way people actually dress.
"Here and Now" is, in this sense, a particularly precise summary of the direction taken by Miuccia Prada. The collection doesn't necessarily seek a spectacular future or a reassuring nostalgia. It looks at existing clothing and attempts to reshape its perception. A pleated skirt can be given a contemporary twist with a masculine jacket; a sweatshirt can coexist with a sophisticated garment; a sneaker can complement a look that until a few years ago would have required a completely different shoe.
It's this ability to continually shift the meaning of things that makes Miuccia Prada's work recognizable. Sportswear isn't celebrated as a passing trend, but embraced as a contemporary cultural fact. The designer herself has emphasized how sportswear has become a part of the normal way of dressing, and precisely for this reason can be subjected to a process of beauty and sophistication.
Miu Miu's Spring/Summer 2027 collection thus fits into a broader landscape in which the relationship between fashion and sport continues to evolve. But beyond the simple athleisure aesthetic, Prada proposes something more complex: not wearing sportswear outside of sporting contexts, but definitively eliminating the idea that there is still a clear boundary between sporty, casual, and formal.
The result is a hybrid wardrobe, contemporary and surprisingly concrete. A wardrobe made of skirts, denim, jersey, tailoring, leather, crystals, and sneakers, in which each piece can change function depending on how it is combined. Perhaps this is the deepest meaning of "Here and Now": to describe fashion not as an escape from reality, but as an interpretation of reality itself.
In Paris, Miu Miu chooses to speak of the present through what people know best: their clothes. And it transforms them without distorting them. It's a form of everyday luxury, ironic and sophisticated, in which sport becomes language and normality, once again, the raw material of fashion.
