After years spent battling in the shadow of Formula 1's big names, George Russell finally has a reason to celebrate success of his own: not just his performance on the track, but also a project that unites his name with that of one of the most iconic Swiss watchmaking brands.
The British Mercedes-AMG Petronas racing driver has teamed up with IWC Schaffhausen, the renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker, to create two limited-edition Pilot's Watches designed to embody racing spirit, technical precision and personal style.
The new timepieces—the Pilot's Watch Automatic 41 George Russell and the Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 George Russell—are built around 41mm black ceramic cases, which are lightweight yet extremely durable, and feature accents of blue that reference the Mercedes livery and Russell's own helmet.
Russell himself explained that he was inspired by a mix of bold elements: from sporty style to the technical silhouette of partner watches like those worn by his team in the World Championship. For him, the design process was more than just a commercial venture: it was a way to embody his racing identity in a wristwatch.
The two models differ in both function and character:
Automatic 41 — more “essential” and focused on readability and everyday comfort, with a black dial and touches of energetic blue.
Chronograph 41 — dedicated to lovers of sporty chronographs, with IWC-manufactured movement, day/date display and a more robust presence on the wrist.
Both models are limited to 1.063 pieces, a number that is no coincidence: it recalls Russell's racing number (#63) and becomes a symbol of exclusivity for collectors and Formula 1 fans.
A watch for victory (and for a future champion)
This launch comes at a crucial time for Russell, who after years of internal struggles within the Mercedes team is aiming ever higher in the drivers’ championship—and who now, in addition to his sporting reputation, brings with him an object that tells a story of dedication, style and performance.
It's not just merchandising: it's a collector's item that combines fine watchmaking and racing adrenaline, designed for those who see time not just as seconds to count, but as milestones to mark.
