Swiss watchmaker Chopard is once again the global sponsor and official timekeeper of the famous Italian endurance race, the Mille Miglia, and to celebrate this year’s edition it is launching two exclusive new timepieces.
The collaboration between Chopard and the Mille Miglia dates back 38 years. The co-president of the maison, as well as a racing enthusiast, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, entered the race for the first time in 1988, aboard his family's 300 Mercedes-Benz 1955 SL Gullwing, alongside the legendary Jacky Ickx, six-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That year also marked the official start of the partnership between Chopard and the Mille Miglia. Decades later, Scheufele and Ickx will once again return to the track together, aboard the same car, to compete against over 400 classic cars in this prestigious stage race, scheduled for June.
For the occasion, Chopard will present the 2025 editions of the Mille Miglia collection directly in Brescia, the city of departure and arrival of the race. The route will follow a figure eight layout, inspired by pre-war races, passing through cities such as Verona, Ferrara, San Marino, Livorno and Rome, before returning to Brescia.
The first model, called Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss, pays homage to the iconic British racing driver and his legendary victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia, achieved together with co-driver Denis Jenkinson. That year, the pair completed the 1.000-mile course in 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds, setting a still-unbeaten average speed record of 97,96 mph (approximately 157,7 km/h).
Made Lucent Steel, Chopard's exclusive steel that is highly resistant and brilliant, the 40,5 mm watch is equipped with a mechanical self-winding chronograph movement with a 54-hour power reserve. The silvered opaline dial recalls the matt hue of the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with which Moss triumphed. The edition is limited to 70 specimens, in homage to the 70th anniversary of that historic feat.
“As a long-time participant of the Mille Miglia, I felt that paying homage to such a legendary race deserved an equally extraordinary timepiece,” said Scheufele.
The second model, called Mille Miglia GTS Power Control – 2025 Race Edition, represents the evolution of the Grand Turismo Sport line, launched ten years ago. With a 43 mm case still in Lucent Steel, it stands out for its satin-finished salmon-colored dial, inspired – according to Chopard – by the aluminum bodywork and painted dashboards of vintage cars. The watch is powered by a chronometer-certified automatic caliber 01.02-M, with a 60-hour power reserve, visible through a “fuel gauge”-shaped indicator between 8 and 10 o’clock.
This edition will also be limited to 250 pieces, available exclusively in Chopard boutiques. The price will be communicated upon request.
