Engadine has dressed in white and is ready to welcome the winter season. Among the many events scheduled, The ICE. has now become an unmissable event. II February 21st and 22nd, the international elegance competition will host some of the most iconic cars in the world on the suggestive frozen lake of St. Moritz. Collectors, enthusiasts and the general public will be able to admire true works of art on wheels, in a truly unparalleled context.
The selection of the cars that will represent the five categories foreseen is underway: among Barchettas on the Lake, Open Wheels, Concept Cars & One Offs, Icons on Wheels and Racing Legends, the selection committee has received a record number of applications, demonstrating the growing interest in the competition not only from the public, but also from collectors worldwide. This year the event promises to be even more exclusive and the jury, composed of internationally renowned experts, will have the difficult task of decreeing the winners among the numerous competitors, each with a unique story and charm.
The jury, in line with the spirit of the event, is made up of professionals who know and love cars, but are also involved in the arts, fashion and design.
Marco Makaus, creator and Patron di The ICE St. Moritz, author of several books dedicated to brands that have written the history of motoring. He participated in the first Concorso d'Eleganza in 1989, has been part of various international juries and still collaborates in the realization of many classic and vintage car events, including Mille Miglia, Villa d'Este Style and Villa la Massa Excellence.
Richard Suitable, one of the world's leading experts on classic cars and an award-winning author of books on the automobile and French style, is a member of the board of the Mullin Automotive Museum Foundation and of the selection committee at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where he has also been a judge for more than thirty years.
Massimo Delbo, an authentic historian of classic cars, boasts various participations in juries of international events. He collaborates with the most prestigious automotive magazines, including Octane Magazine and Cavallino Magazine, of which he is the Editorial Director.
Mathias Doutreleau, founder and former director of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, the flagship event of the Monterey Car Week. In 2016, he relaunched the Concours d'Elégance Suisse, the historic Geneva elegance competition, and is still its president. He also manages the FIA historic car championships and the Historic Motor Sport Committee of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).
N, an internationally renowned British architect and designer, is one of the leading exponents of contemporary architecture, as well as the designer of the futuristic Chesa Futura in St. Moritz.
Christian Jott Jenny, a fixed point of reference for The ICE since its first edition. His presence as Mayor of St. Moritz and a man of culture strengthens the institutional bond with the city and confirms the value of the event also at a local level.
Michele Lupi, an internationally renowned journalist, has been the director of magazines such as GQ, Rolling Stone, Icon and Icon Design. Chosen by Tod's as Men's Collection Visionary, his gaze recognizes quality and style, whether it is music, design or classic cars.
Vanessa Marçais, who grew up among classic cars, soon became passionate about them to the point of making it her profession. She is the creator, together with her husband Flavien Marçais, of the GT & Sports Car Cup, an invitation-only series of classic car races, promoted by their brand Automobiles Historiques. She is also a respected event curator.
Philip Rathgen, CEO of Classic Driver, is one of the most influential figures in the world of classic cars. He has served on juries at many international events, such as the Concours d'Elegance at Villa d'Este and the Gold Coast Motor Festival in Hong Kong.
Augustin Sabatié-Garat, a leading figure in the international auction scene, has been working with RM Sotheby's since 2012, where he currently serves as Director of Sales for EMEA markets. A great enthusiast and expert in classic cars, he regularly takes part in rallies and track races throughout Europe.
Jay Ward, a new entry for this edition, is the creative director for the Pixar franchise. He oversees global projects related to all three Cars films, for which he served as the creative and automotive consultant. He also serves as an honorary judge and class judge at numerous competitions, including Pebble Beach and Villa d'Este.
In addition to the static evaluations of the experts, the event includes suggestive dynamic activities. The most awaited moment remains the traditional parade on the ice of the competing cars on Saturday, in a unique and engaging atmosphere for all the fans of the most characteristic “ice party” of the season.
