A new association is born that unites five of the most renowned Italian tourist destinations: Capri, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Courmayeur, Madonna di Campiglio and Porto Cervo. These places, recognized since 2014 as symbols of Italian excellence by Fondazione Altagamma, are preparing to collaborate formally through a partnership that will take shape in about 10 months.
“We have been working on this project for a year, which is certainly not easy, but challenging: finding a dialogue between territories with different but in fact similar experiences generates contamination, opportunities, mutual stimuli,” underlines Roberto Rota, mayor of Courmayeur.
“We will have an additional tool to invest in the promotion of our identity, cultural and natural heritage, as well as focus on strategies aimed at sustainable tourism development for the environment and the local community,” he says. Roberto Ragnedda, mayor of the municipality of Arzachena (Porto Cervo).
“We must think in terms of a system and not as a sum of individual units, with new approaches, new models aimed at improving the collective life not only of tourists, but also of the citizens residing in our municipalities”, he underlines Paolo Falco, Mayor of the Municipality of Capri.
“The Altagamma Territories face common challenges: the need to extend the seasons to make the territory liveable all year round; the search for qualified personnel; mobility; the creation of increasingly accessible and sustainable itineraries and experiences; the identification of mutual promotion activities; the creation of itinerant events that can be replicated in different locations to spread the virtuous circuit of the most exclusive destinations in Italy”, he concludes. Gianluca Lorenzi, mayor of the municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The main objective of the initiative is to strengthen the presence and influence of these destinations in national and international institutions, as well as in private organizations such as NGOs, cultural foundations and tourism associations. This work aims to orient national tourism policies towards supporting excellence and enhancing the landscape, artistic, historical and cultural heritage of these territories.
“Tourism is a strategic lever for development for the country and for Made in Italy. Some territories that best tell and represent the excellence of the Italian lifestyle have become reference destinations for high-profile travellers and since 2014 we have wanted to enhance them by nominating them Honorary Members of the Foundation. We are pleased that five of them have formally joined together in a partnership that strengthens each member and facilitates the promotion of high-end tourism that can have maximum impact in terms of direct and indirect spin-offs on our economy. The Territories of Excellence can be an example and driving force for a repositioning of tourism in our country towards the top”, comments Matteo Lunelli, President of Altagamma.
Among the projects planned for 2025, a collective event in the United States stands out, accompanied by training initiatives and institutional activities. Another fundamental objective is the development of innovative management models to make tourism more sustainable, in line with the European objectives of the 2030 Agenda, which gives great importance to environmental and social sustainability.
