Buccellati has expanded its flagship store in via Montenapoleone 23 in Milan, doubling the space dedicated to its customers. The investment has allowed the opening of the main floor, which is added to the two boutiques already present on the ground floor of Palazzo Gavazzi, bringing the sales area to a total of approximately 600 square meters.
The lower level of the store displays the Maison's jewelry and silverware collections, while the upper level now also features the high jewelry lines and a selection of vintage pieces, some for sale and others from the brand's historical archive. Completing the space is an artisan workshop that allows visitors to observe the artisans at work in the traditional engraving technique, a distinctive feature of Buccellati.
Palazzo Gavazzi, currently owned by the Balossi Restelli family, was built between 1838 and 1839 to a design by architect Luigi Chierichetti, in neoclassical style. The façade is covered in smooth ashlar and has a large balcony, with architectural details such as four Doric-style pilasters that continue inside as Corinthian pilaster strips, culminating in the statues of the Caryatids. Inside there are romantic frescoes of the time and mosaic floors with small tesserae. The restoration of the upper floor, curated by the Parisian interior designer Chahan Minassian together with Studio Quadrilatero of Milan, has brought to light an elegant and sophisticated environment, respecting the original architectural details and harmonizing with the historical spirit of the Buccellati brand.
The palace, with its charm similar to that of an elegant jewelry box, has been enhanced through meticulous care in the choice of materials, finishes and custom-made furnishings. The majestic staircase leads to the entrance of the main floor, where rooms decorated with frescoed ceilings, mosaic floors and Murano glass chandeliers follow one another, culminating in two large halls flanked by hallways and small private rooms.
Every piece of furniture and lighting is custom-made, including sofas, consoles, chairs, tables and rugs, all designed by Chahan Interiors Design. The furniture, with its distinctive shapes by the Armenian designer, is upholstered in fine Italian fabrics from Bevilacqua, Fortuny and Rubelli. The display also includes historic vintage Buccellati display cases, paired with new display cases designed by Chahan. The color palette, featuring tones of gold, moon silver, bronze and metallic reflections, is reflected in the finishes and materials, such as iridescent silks, champagne-colored mirrors and metal mesh details.
“After over a hundred years of history since its foundation in 1919 by Mario Buccellati and after the recent successes in international markets, we thought it was time to celebrate this prestigious Italian brand in its city of origin by creating a unique, historic and prestigious space, in the heart of one of the most important streets in the world for luxury products”. The comment of Gianluca Brozzetti Executive Vice President Buccellati.
“The majestic Piano Nobile of the palazzo, with its extraordinary architectural features, original woodwork and mosaic floors, was a real discovery. My goal was to coordinate and juxtapose these elements with Buccellati’s identity, ensuring that the space felt as if it had always existed. Buccellati is synonymous with luxury and history, and I wanted to present this heritage in a fresh and contemporary way, making the clientele and the public feel at home,” he concludes.
