Milan will have flying taxis. This, at least, is the objective of the memorandum of understanding for the construction of some vertiports by 2027 signed on Tuesday by Lilium - manufacturer of electric aircraft -, Sea Milan Airports and Skyports Infrastructure. According to the agreement, passengers will be transported by Lilium Jets, a prototype of a German electric airplane.
“Lombardy is a strategically important location for partners – we read in the note released by the companies -. Hosting almost a fifth of Italy's population and with over 37 million annual visitors, air mobility will complement and complement existing mobility solutions in the region, offering faster, lower-emission travel between key locations." In this panorama, Sea, which manages the Milanese airports, will make available its skills and knowledge on aviation, management and respect of Lombardy's infrastructures; will manage the operation of the vertiports together with Skyports.
The agreement will see the parties develop regional air mobility routes serving the main locations in Lombardy. The first route will connect Milan Malpensa airport with the center of Milan. “A fundamental enabling factor for the entire project is the strong partnership with ENAC. The authority recently published a comprehensive national regulation – the first of its kind in Europe – for VTOL aircraft, positioning Italy as a leader in the introduction of Innovative Air Mobility in Europe,” concludes the note.
