The new train stop in Milano-Mind will be a new way to reach the former Expo area and the Cascina Merlata district, which in the future is expected to attract 45 thousand people every day. It will be on the section of the Milan-Varese line between Rho Fiera and Milano Certosa. All thanks to the implementation agreement between the Italian Railway Network (FS Group), the Municipality, the Region and the Arexpo company, announced yesterday.
“The creation of this stop is very important for us”, states the CEO of RFI Gianpiero Strisciuglio, according to which "Milano Mind will be an example of a station that will have functions and services designed for an urban context in full transformation, very different from the current one". The overall cost of the works is 33,5 million euros, of which 10 million paid by the Municipality of Milan and 23,5 million financed through the 'Investment Program Contract' between the MIT and RFI relating to the City Hubs and the metropolitan lines.
When the Mind project is completed, according to what was announced by RFI and Landlease, there will be around 45 thousand people who will frequent the area every day, 35 thousand more than the current average. The first leap forward is expected in 2027, when over 23 thousand students, teachers and researchers will arrive from the State University, which has decided to create its new campus between Cardo and Decumano.
