In Italy there will be 276 thousand people wanted between 2024 and 2028 in the supply chainstop of the range in the motoring, food, hospitality, fashion and design sectors. This is what emerges from the data processed by the Foundation with Unioncamere, relating to the forecast of employment and professional needs in Italy in the medium term, presented today during the Altagamma day. It is estimated that in approximately 50% of cases, companies will have difficulty finding the professional figures they need, even in a context of youth unemployment which stands at around 20%.
“In light of the employment needs of 276.000 profiles for the next five years, the training of new talents must be the priority for the entire Italian manufacturing sector, a heritage of entrepreneurial culture, artisanal and technological know-how, beauty and Italian spirit that we want to preserve ", commented Matteo Lunelli, President of Altagamma. “The common objective of companies, associations and institutions must be to build a virtuous ecosystem in which manufacturing work becomes an ambition for young people and in which the training system is able to ensure the correct skills and soft skills” .
The estimated need for 2028 of 276.000 people is growing compared to the first estimate developed in 2019, when approximately 5 units were expected for the next 236.000 years. A growth due to the economic expansion of the sector, the expected positive impact of the resources of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and which takes into account the turnover needs. Specifically, the supply chains will need 80 thousand professionals in the automotive sector, 75 thousand in fashion, 60 thousand in food, 32 thousand in hospitality and 29 thousand in design.
Faced with these needs, companies show difficulty in finding the staff they are looking for in 45% of cases, especially due to the lack of candidates. In 2023, the sectors that reported the greatest difficulties were Design (57%) and Motors (55.9%), followed by Hospitality (47,7%) and Fashion (47,5%) and Food (38,9%). ).

- MOTORS: The requirement in the five-year period is 80 thousand units. The estimate of employment in 2028 is 752 thousand units.
- FOOD: The requirement in the five-year period is 60 thousand units. The estimate of employment in 2028 is 495 thousand units.
- HOSPITALITY: The requirement in the five-year period is 32 thousand units. The estimate of employment in 2028 is 230 thousand units.
- FASHION: The requirement in the five-year period is 75 thousand units. The estimate of employment in 2028 is 483 thousand units.
- HUMAN: The requirement in the five-year period is 29 thousand units. To reach an employment stock of 2028 thousand units in 240.
