The concept of haute couture redefines itself in the creative vision of Iris vanHerpen, Dutch designer and founder of the fashion house of the same name, and reveals herself to the public in the recent exhibition Sculpting Senses, set up inside the Museum of Decorative Arts di Paris.
Inaugurated on November 29 and can be visited until 28th April, the exhibition offers a journey through the sartorial mythology of the designer, known for her dreamlike and fantastic creations, and pieces ofcontemporary art, elements that establish a dialogue between aesthetics and technique and which served as inspiration for the designer.
Already the title of the exhibition, Sculpting Senses, mentions a synthesis between the act of sculpture, which requires considerable precision and skill, and the world of sensoriality, a dimension made of perceptions and first impressions, in which instinct dominates; the itinerary also prepares the visitor for a rediscovery of one's senses, on a journey that begins from the origins of life on Earth to the most modern artificial stimuli.
From materiality to abstraction, Sculpting Senses It is divided into nine stages essential, which alternate installations of van Herpen's creations with works of art that highlight their more conceptual aspect: starting, for example, fromwater, in which the designer's latest collection (Carte Blanche) dialogues with the work Origins di David spriggs, while the conclusion of the exhibition includes a screening of some garments in one cosmic space, enhanced by the artist's photographs Kim Keever.
