The world can't get enough of Yayoi Kusama and its dots, including Louis Vuitton. A decade after their first collaboration in 2012, the house reunites with the Japanese artist for a ready-to-wear collection featuring Kusama's signature motifs and ideas.
The collaboration will be launched in two parts with distinct thematic directions. The first drop will launch on January 1 in China and Japan and January 6 in the rest of the world. The second drop will instead be available in Louis Vuitton stores starting March 31, although full details have yet to be released.
The collaboration of Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama, does not stop only at clothing and accessories, but will be celebrated within a complex visual context, which includes shop windows and pop-ups, together with augmented reality experiences, an XR game and a dedicated advertising campaign.
The first part – glimpses of which were revealed at the show Cruise 2023 di Louis Vuitton, is represented by the motif dei Painted Dots . The collection is a direct translation of the free hand of Kusama through a complex silk-screen and relief technique on leather or on the iconic coated canvas, where a playful meeting of the polka dots takes place with the Monogram Louis Vuitton.
The collection Metal Dots instead it represents the glow of infinity inspired by the mirrored spheres of Kusama, a familiar motif inspired by his work Narcissus Garden, exhibited at the 33rd Venice Biennale in 1966.
