The process towards electrification inevitably leads Audi to significantly change the design of its models. One cannot fail to occur visual distortion which will change the style and distinguish the brand in the near future.
For Marc Lichte, head of the Audi style center, electric cars compared to thermal ones have the center of power no longer visible in the engine, but in the battery block generally placed under the floor at the base of the platform. They also offer a large scope for digitalization and automated driving. This it will radically change the stylistic approach in the next few years, as happened with the transition from the carriage to the car.
Tomorrow, August 10, Audi will present its new concept Audi Sky Sphere. As we had the opportunity to discover a short time ago, this is the first of three concepts that will show how the design style of future models of the house of the four rings will evolve. The launch event will be held at the manufacturer's design center in Malibu, California.
According to reports, the design of Sky Sphere is inspired by that of the Horch 853A, an iconic model from the past. The proportions, in fact, are similar. The long bonnet, long wheelbase and shortened front and rear overhangs have been carried over to the concept car. The German brand emphasizes that the car will also have advanced autonomous driving solutions. In fact, in a few seconds it can be "transformed" to bring passengers comfortably seated inside to their destination without any human intervention.
After Sky Sphere it will be the turn of Grand Sphere which should anticipate the shapes of the future Audi flagship. Concept that will be unveiled during the Munich Motor Show to be held at the beginning of September 2021. For the third concept, Urban Sphere, instead, we will have to wait until 2022. It is a model that should be an SUV designed for the urban environment, as the presence of the word “Urban” in its name implies.
