The denomination of the Lugana DOC (recognized as early as 1967, therefore the first in Lombardy) includes different types of wines, Classic Method and Charmat sparkling wines, the “base” Lugana, the Superiore, the Riserva and the Lugana Vendemmia Tardiva. A remarkable variety therefore that boasts three fundamental characteristics, immediacy, flavor and longevity. We are therefore talking about discrete, if not excellent, ready-to-drink wines. And of wines with distinctive aromatic characteristics, among which the most evident is a marked, but balanced minerality. And finally, very pleasant wines even after a long refinement in the bottle.

Lugana DOC Classic Method Hirundo Brut Selva Capuzza
The Lugana DOC area extends over the territory south of Lake Garda, from the Sirmione peninsula to the hinterland between Lombardy and Veneto, between the provinces of Brescia and Verona. It is therefore not particularly extensive, but due to both the type of soils and the microclimate it has an ancient vocation for viticulture. And the most brilliant winemakers here know how to obtain the best from the vineyard to the cellar according to their production philosophy. We had confirmation of this, for example, during the interesting masterclass organized in Milan as part of the event "Lugana. Timeless harmonies" from Lugana DOC Protection Consortium where about fifty companies also paraded.

Lugana DOC Classic Method Pasini San Giovanni
Taste after taste, we therefore found a truly excellent quality standard. But especially the masterclass led by Sissi Baratella was illuminating, divided into four slots, designed precisely to highlight the virtues and potential of the Turbiana. Out of twelve tastings we have therefore drawn up our personal ranking:
Among the sparkling wines, the Lugana DOC Classic Method Brut Nature 2012, produced only in Magnum bottles of Pearl of Garda.

Lugana DOC Classic Method Brut Nature Perla del Garda
Among the young Luganas, the Lugana DOC 2018 Cement of Marangona.

Among the Reserves, Lugana DOC Reserve Sergio Zenato 2017.
